I've been doing the ruffled scarves from Sashay and Starbella yarn, but never think of the skirt.
ReplyDeleteThank you for the great idea!
This skirt is so adorable! I might make it for my cousin one day. She likes to prance around in fancy clothes like that. :)
ReplyDeleteWaouh! thanks so cute ♥
ReplyDeleteCould u do a video or the link to the bottom skirt on this sashay skirt pattern? It could benefit me a lot.
ReplyDeleteI did do a video
ReplyDeleteVideo I made to help you understand how to create ruffles on sashay yarn skirt:

ReplyDeleteSo cute!! I'd love to make one for my 6 year old niece. Do you have instructions for sizes larger than 2-4?
ReplyDeletefor a larger size, I would measure her waist, then crochet chains that are same measurements as the waist measurement, and just follow the rest of the pattern
ReplyDeleteWhen I did this for my niece who is 6 I increased the chains by 6 and it fits her perfectly
DeleteLooking at your pattern the base for the skirt is done in SC with the ruffle being attached in every 3d row. I wonder...could I cut down on the number of rows needed for the base by SCing row 5, then DC row 6 (rather than SCing 6 and 7) and so on...the ruffle would be attached to the SC rows. Thoughts?
ReplyDeleteDid it work? Was hoping to start one this evening..
DeleteSure, that would work since the ruffle would cover the base
ReplyDeleteI made this for my grand-daughter, it is so cute and I am so proud of myself. I made the 2t with no problem. Thanks for the wonderful pattern
ReplyDeleteThis is really beautiful. You are very creative. With a few changes, we can make a lamp shade cover also.
ReplyDeleteWow, at first glance I thought this was a clutch purse. Little girls get to wear all the fun stuff! This stuff could be used as a ruffled cuff for plain shirts, the neckline as well. It would be pretty as a "flower" on a hat.
ReplyDeleteLove this skirt and your blog...so you'll have a next follower!;-)
ReplyDeletegreats from Holland

(p.s) my blog is also in english;-)
TIP: If you are making this skirt in a larger size, using the Caron yarn might make it too heavy. I am making it in a girls size 6 and am using a sport weight yarn which seems to be working out well.
ReplyDeleteI am very confused on round 8 could you please help me! thank you
ReplyDeletejust repeat the round 8 of ruffles the same way you do round 5 of ruffles
ReplyDeleteI plan on making this in the Starbella yarn Stinger color (Black and Gold) for football season. Both my daughters will get one. And all four of my nieces may get one. So. Stinkin. Cute!! Thank you!

My 6 year old and I are very excited to have found this pattern! thank you! I am really going to try to make it for her self and for her little sister ;) wish me luck!
ReplyDeleteI have made 2 skirts this week and both were received with delight. Thanks for sharing such a precious pattern.
ReplyDeleteYour skirt pattern inspired a really cute little purse... https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=4742318240470&set=a.1492014664912.2065022.1370397972&type=1&theater
ReplyDeleteWould be interested in the purse pattern please? Thanks kss
DeleteOn round 8 of the skirt I am assuming you are supposed to repeat the pattern of sc in next 2 stitches, 2sc in next stitch around to the end? At least that is what I did
ReplyDeleteyes thats right
ReplyDeleteHi! I'm so excited to use this pattern. Is there a printer friendly version of it? My daughter is 3 and LOVE to be a Fairy Godmother... I think this would be too cute!
ReplyDeleteyou should be able to copy and print from the blog, but if you need me to send you a copy of it via email, email me at amray767@yahoo.com and I will email it to you, so you can print it off.
ReplyDeleteThank you so much for this pattern!
ReplyDeleteI'm new to crochet love this pattern but am confused why it goes from 72 to 96 am I supposed to increase and last stitch of each row so right?
ReplyDeleteI goes from 72, to 96, because in that next row, I made an increase, there is only one increase round in the skirt, after that, there will not be an increase, just single crochet around to the end of the skirt.
ReplyDeleteTy :)
ReplyDeleteThank you so much for the instructions!! I'm going to start on one for my precious 2 1/2 old grand daughter TOMORROW!!! This is such a darling little skirt....
ReplyDeletehttp://www.craftstv1.com/2013/05/crocheted-suit.html - amazing crochet suit pattern
ReplyDeleteFor size 6 would I begin with chain 78?
ReplyDeleteyou could try that
ReplyDeletethis would make a really cute clutch purse or bag.
ReplyDeleteThank you!
ReplyDeleteLove how easy this pattern is!! I made it in a day and had quite a few friends wanting to make their own for their little girls so I passed on the link to your page! I plan to make another in different colors but only ruffle the bottom. Once again...Amazing!!!
ReplyDeleteThanks, come find me on my new site, for new patterns, www.crochetjewel.com
ReplyDeleteMy 23 yr old daughter has been making my 18 mos old grand daughter these awesome skirts ever since we saw your post. She's even making them for her close friends. And she's FAST, cranking out 2 complete ones in a day!! Thank you for sharing your pattern...
ReplyDeleteThanks, glad you like them!
ReplyDeleteTwo things I did different, only did the back loop sc on those rows where the ruffle is attached and worked the ruffles from the bottom up. This makes putting the ruffle on easier.
ReplyDeleteI made this for my 5 year old grand daughter. It was loved by her and everyone who sees it. My 72 year old mother has requested one for her doll! Thank you so much for sharing this beautiful pattern.
ReplyDelete❤ this sashay skirt! I was wondering if there was anything else that could be used for the base to put the ruffles on since I don't know how to croquet? Tube top maybe? I'm clueless....help!
ReplyDeletehmm, not sure since I only know crochet
ReplyDeleteOn each ruffle row do u fasten off then start a new row of ruffles????
ReplyDeleteyes, just fasten off, did you watch the video, that will help too, :)
ReplyDeleteUnable to access video...
DeleteOh fantastic!! I was so confused at to what to do with it, and have had so many friends with little girls ask me to make these!! THANK YOU!
ReplyDeleteVery pretty. thank you for sharing this pattern. i love to make this for my little girl
ReplyDeleteI am making this for a 3 month old would I still need to do rows 9 through 24?? With the regular yarn
ReplyDeleteI only measured it for a 2 or 4 year old. So my guess is, measure the waist or know the waist of a 3 month old, and chain a width for that measurement. Then continue on for how long you would want for a 3 month old. I would do a google search and see how long a 3 month is from waist to feet and then cut that in half for the length. I can't say I know for sure, since I only did this for a toddler and older.
ReplyDeleteOk thank you!!
ReplyDeleteI'm a little confused about the rounds count. You say to sc for rows 3-4, and then repeat for the next 2 rounds. Then it goes to Rounds 5-7, but haven't those already been done it the two rounds following 3 and 4? Help!
ReplyDeleteI'm just saying the same thing two different ways. I'm saying do rounds 3-4, then continue on with rounds 5-7. I just said it twice so you know to repeat round 3 twice, which equals rounds 3-4. and same thing for rounds 5-7, repeat round 5, three times. So just to be clear just do rounds 3-4 the way it says then continue on to rounds 5-7 the way it says, ignore the repeating part, it just means to do round 3: twice, and to do round 5: three times. Hope I made that clear?
ReplyDeleteAt the end of each round with the sashay yarn, do you have to cut and tie off or only at the end of the entire skirt? I have my base skirt complete and I'm not sure if I do a continuous crochet with the sashay or keep cutting and reattaching. Thanks!
ReplyDeleteyes cut off the sashay yarn at the end of each round.
ReplyDeleteI am in need of some help! My seam seems to be going in a diagonal. I have started and restarted it at least twice and it's the same issue! My stitches count out right, but what might I be doing wrong?
ReplyDeletenot sure why it would be going on a slant, make sure your count is correct. Also make sure that you don't sc in that last stitch, that is really be previous beginning stitch, that can make that happen. Make sure you only increase where is says too.
ReplyDeleteMaybe this is a dumb question but how do you tie this off? Cut it and sew it then start a new row of ruffles? Sorry I'm new to this yarn.
ReplyDeletedid you watch the video, that will help on how to cut it off and tie it. Yes, you will start a new row of ruffles each time for each row of ruffles.
ReplyDeleteWhen you are suppose to chain in the beginning round do u sc in that stitch as well or just go to the second sc from the begginning round and sc in that one and do u count the chain 1 as a stitch? For some reason i end up with 73 not 72 in each round even if i start out with 72
ReplyDeleteno sc in the next stitch after the chain 1. I don't have the skirt to count the stitches anymore, at the time I had a 72 count on sc only, not including the chain 1. But if its working out with one more sc count, then I wouldnt worry about it.
ReplyDeleteHi I was wondering if u could please male a video of you making the shirt I can follow a video but not so good with just the instructions(I need to see what u are doing).please!!!!!!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteThanks Susie turner
when i get a chance, right now my whole house is sick with a cold.
ReplyDeleteSuzanne Kriesher, could you please tell me what your pattern ended up being for the size 6 skirt please?
ReplyDeleteI was wondering if you had a pattern similiar to this but a skort. My son does not allow his daughters to west short skirts without leggings and I dont want to detract from how adorable this pattern is!! TIA
ReplyDeleteI do not have a skort pattern sorry. Also I dont have a size 6 worked out. But I suggest you can measure the childs waist and work a chain that fits around her waist and pretty much work the in a similar pattern.
ReplyDeleteI'm so happy I found your site and this pattern.Thank you for sharing,I new It had to work but could not figur out how and tada you showed me how to!!! sorry for the mistakes, greatings from the Netherlands from Ria
ReplyDeleteI saw some questioning about fastening off after each row and I found it easier to just chain 3 and drop down to the next set of back loop rows and continue the same without cutting the yarn. It worked out perfectly. Thanks for this pattern. I was looking for some other things to make other than the scarves and this was perfect.
ReplyDeleteOh Amy, girl I do love you for this joepie !!! finally I can make something else from the sashay yarn.I'm going to use It for bags and shawls wowie
ReplyDeletegreatings from the Netherlands Ria
Thanks you for posting this Pattern. It turned out great and wish there was a way to post a photo of it. I made the size 2T with a smaller hook and fits my 11M3W old. I made it for her 1st birthday or Easter. It turned out SUPER Cute. Its a great pattern.
ReplyDeleteI made this short skirt for my granddaughter and changed it into shorts by
ReplyDelete1 find the middle of front and back
2 with that point in the middle sc 8 or 9 stitches.
3 sc back and forth reducing as you go along until you think it is long enough to reach between the legs. then sc into the back around the middle point.
4 sc several rows around the openings for legs of the shorts. It turns out very nice.
is this for 2t-4t, or reg.2-4? i need it in 4t as reg. 4 are to big. ty for help didn't want to start something that is to big. thanks terri
ReplyDelete2 and 4 regular.
ReplyDelete2 and 4 regular.
ReplyDeletehere go to my channel and look it up, https://www.youtube.com/user/amray767
ReplyDeletehere is the purse, http://crochetjewel.com/?p=9
ReplyDeleteLove the look of the skirt. Would it be possible to make an adult size? I'm a size 10 or 12 in pants, short leg length. Would it be too heavy with all the ruffles?
ReplyDeleteIm not sure since I havent done it for an adult, but it may work.
ReplyDeleteI would like to know if I could make one for a 3 to 6 month or 6 to 9 month?
ReplyDeleteI would get the measurements of the waist of that size, and chain the length for the waist size, then connect that chain together and follow the pattern. you may make it a little shorter then a toddler size, find out how long a baby is from waist to knees and stop at the knees for the skirt.
ReplyDeleteHello, love! Does the ch3 at the beginning count as the first treble crochet?
ReplyDeleteI cant remember if I counted as a DC in the in my count, but I usually count it as DC when I create one.
ReplyDeletei would like to now the with & how much ribbion u used. ex 3/8
ReplyDeleteBeautiful job! It was featured in an MNE Crafts Round up!
ReplyDeletehttp://www.mnecrafts.com/2014/06/summer-clothing-round-up-10-free.html
Im not sure how much ribbon I used, sorry.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the awesome instructions, I made this skirt and it turned out, lol. Not as perfect as yours but I still love it!
ReplyDeleteIf I want to make this for a smaller child how do I know how many chains I start with?
ReplyDeleteI dont know how many chains for smaller, but measures the childs waist and then chain as many chains to reach the measurement of the waist.
ReplyDeleteI love this Sashay skirt you are so creative!!
ReplyDeletedo you also have the pattern for the Bolero?
thank you so much
no sorry
ReplyDeleteAbout how long does this skirt take to make?
ReplyDeleteI cant remember, but I suppose a couple of hours.
ReplyDeleteI would love to make this for a friends baby who will be one next week. I believe her size is 18m, do you know how many stitches to start it?
ReplyDeletemeasure around the waist of the child or look up the size of a waist of an 18 month old, and work that many chains to measure that size of the waist.
ReplyDeleteHave you thought about starting the ruffle at bottom of skirt and working your way up? Seems like you would not be fighting ruffle the entire time.
ReplyDeleteHey, What a beautiful skirt. Id love to make this for my daughter but im from the uk and cant find anywhere that stocks sashay yarn, is there an alternative yarn that would look just as gorgeous? :)
ReplyDeleteDo you have other type of yarn like that in your area? Or try this pattern, and do the ruffles the way this dress patterns says with regular yarn. http://amray1976.blogspot.com/2015/03/crochet-0-3-months-dress.html
ReplyDeleteIf there a way to modify this for a newborn?
ReplyDeletetake the measurements of a newborn and chain that many chains to fit around that size waist and follow the pattern.
ReplyDeleteIs it safe to assume I crochet the basic skirt with the F hook and the I hook is used for the sashay yarn?
ReplyDeleteyes
ReplyDeleteWorking on one of these for a 3 year old that wears size 6 clothes. Started with ch 78. I'll let you know how it turns out! Love the pattern, and my daughter is excited for me to finish it. Thanks so much for sharing it!
