  3. did you watch the video, how many chains did you go with, and did you make sure you counted all your stitches, if you miss a stitch if can throw it off.

  4. Pardon my question, but I am a newbie. If I wanted to do this in double crochet, would I chain 251 and double crochet in 4th stitch from the chain? Thank you so much for your answer.

  5. if you want to the 4th chain from the hook, I think you would have to do a chain of 253

  6. I must be doing something wrong. In following the directions of row two stating to leaving the last stitch unworked..My Afghan is slowly shrinking! What am I doing wrong? Help!!

  7. I am sorry, I thought I was posting for the crochet ripple stitch afghan. I love the pattern but would like to use the dc stitch. would I still put my first dc in 2nd ch from hook? and when I turn, would I still ch1 or the standard ch3 for dc? thank you.

    ReplyDelete
  8. I cant say for sure, since you are changing up the pattern, but I would maybe add one more chain to your chains, and dc in the 3rd chain from the hook, yes you could do ch 1 and follow the pattern and see if that works, I think ch 3 to start may mess up the pattern, since you need to skip a stitch

  11. Why are you leaving that last chain unworked? If you do that in every row after row one it will shrink your afghan wouldn't it? What is the reasoning for not working that chain? I watched the video and thought you were going to show us how to do something with it.

    ReplyDelete
  12. did you try the pattern yet, it works to leave it unworked

    ReplyDelete
  13. Hi ! If I didn't skip the first stitch then maybe I wouldn't have the extra one at the end! Can I do that?

    ReplyDelete
  14. I am also having an issue with the last stitch of every row. I always seem to have 2 stitches left over after my last 9. I've watched the video and counted twice...what am I doing wrong?

    1. I hope you don't mind me interjecting. I just finished the afghan and I love it! I got to the last two stitches and did a reduction type stitch at every end. It worked perfectly!

  15. hmm, only thing I can think of is to do what you are already doing, count all your stitches and watch the video, what was your starting chain count?

    ReplyDelete
  16. When I tried the 125 chain count, that's when I had the problem. I ripped it out and restarted with the 146 chain count it worked out perfectly!
Thanks so much for posting this video. I've always wanted to make this and now I can! I'm using dark mauve, black and cream. Can't wait to watch the progress!

    1. I did this blanket twice, both times I used the 251 chain count only difference was the size of the hook and it made a huge difference!I went from a hook size "E" And it wasn't big at all, then I used a hook size "K" and it made a very big difference. I have a queen size bed and it's hanging off on both sides of the bed.

  20. I dont think so, I think it would be a bit small for that, and I dont have a larger chain count to make it bigger sorry

  21. Hello I doing the 146 count of this blanket and I've come up short at six stitches four times at the end please help what am I doing wrong,I am counting every time

    ReplyDelete
  22. I know for sure that the 251 chain count works since that is how the original pattern is worked out, so I made a chart with the stitch counts and those are the numbers I came up with but It could be wrong or you are doing the stitches wrong, so Im not sure.

    ReplyDelete
  23. To make the pattern, just use your 12 stitches in each "peak" and multiply that by the number of additional peaks you want, then add that number to the 251 stitches that the original pattern calls for... pretty easy to figure it out that way...

  24. I was wonder if i can ask a question on the ripple blanket how may row would do for a baby blanket would i just cut that in half please share if you will Thnaks

  25. I would do the ch 251 count, this blanket isnt that big

    1. I know this is going to sound silly but: Do you happen to know the measurement of the finished afghan using the 251 chains?

  26. I'm working on this pattern but I'm noticing that the ends are going in? Why is it doing this?

    ReplyDelete
  27. Im not sure why your ends are going in or what you mean? but I would take a yarn needle at the end and weave them in the afghan when you complete the it.

    ReplyDelete
  28. Hi there all as the other people asking this question wouldn't leaving one stitch unworked meaning shrinking the Afghan?

    ReplyDelete
  29. no it wont shrink it, this is how the pattern works

    ReplyDelete
  30. Working on this now and it is working up beautifully!! Thank you for sharing. The skipping of the stitch at the beginning and leaving the one stitch at the end is what's actually creating the straight edge due to the angle of the chevron!!! Brilliant (took me a few tries to figure that out haha, gotta remember to do both) thanks again 😀

  31. Hi there, just wondering, what bed size roughly is the 251 count? I was making my mom a blanket but way over chained and it was over 7 feet wide 😂 so I ripped out out and am starting again with your pattern instead of the other.

    Thank you

    ReplyDelete
  32. its about 33 inches across and then how ever long you would like it

  33. Thanks so much for sharing this beautiful pattern! I made this with a double crochet instead of single and used a J hook; it came out beautifully!!! I used the same chain count and it was much larger than I expected (5'11" in width) but just too pretty to take apart and start over! I don't know how to upload a picture, but I sure wish I could! Thanks again!

  34. Thank you so much for this beautiful pattern! I used the same chain count, but did a double crochet instead of a single and used a J hook. It came out MUCH bigger than I anticipated (5'11" wide), but it is stunning!!! Thanks again!😀

  35. Well doing this pattern. I do row one and then I just repeat row two until (with different colours) until the end of the blanket or do I go back and fourth between row one and two. I am a little confused

    ReplyDelete
  36. keep repeating the row 2 until color change, did you watch the video, that helps

  37. Thank you very much, I am a new crochet beginner and your tutorial is very helpful. I can understand you well. For some reasons I find that I have more stitches than needed. Can I skip 1 stitch very now and then? to get 9 stitches... Please help.

  38. How many chains did you use? I would follow the pattern exactly or it will be off. I would follow the orginal chain count.

    ReplyDelete
  39. The video is very easy to understand.
Thank you for taking the time to make it easy for us with the different chain counts for the different size blankets

    ReplyDelete
  40. Hi! Are the edges supposed to look staggered? I have followed the pattern exactly and mine also looks like it might be getting smaller

    ReplyDelete
  41. hmm, the sides should be straight, but you skip one last stitch at the end of each row, but still should be straight.

    ReplyDelete
  42. Not sure if my last comment posted, so I apologize if it duplicates.

When you said 3 balls of yarn, did you mean 3 balls of each color? B/c using my Bernat POP yarn double skein, 3 balls only crochets 15 inches high.

Otherwise, I love this pattern. Simple to read, lovely bridging.

    Thanks for sharing for free.

  43. I watched the video a few times while trying to follow the written instructions. Can I please just verify in the second row when you skip two and when you skip one?

    ReplyDelete
  44. Did you watch the video, that may help to see how I do it.

Skip 1 sc, 1 sc in back loop of each of next 9 sc, *3 sc in back loop of next sc, 1 sc in back loop of each of next 9 sc, skip 2 sc, 1 sc in back loop of each of next 9 sc, repeat from *across, end 3 sc in back loop of next sc, 1 sc in back loop of each of next 9 sc, leaving last stitch unworked, ch 1, turn.

  45. I LOVE this pattern. As I told my sister "if you can't follow this pattern, you won't be able to follow any pattern". I donated my first one to a charitable auction and it garnered $400 for the Afghan. I'd love to send you a pic of this last one that I did with Bernat Pop in blue chambrey which is a variegated blue that is very soft. My niece claimed it before I finished the first bolt.

Thank you again for sharing the pattern.

  46. Hello, I love this pattern. The way you teach it on the video is so easy to understand. I had trouble understanding other written patterns, but you are a great teacher and it is turning out really great. I will send you a picture when I have completed it. Hey my name is Lehman too, only with two N's - Lehmann - - smiles!

  48. if you want the video I explain how many chains you need.

  49. Hi there. I am counting my stitches as instructed but I too am noticing that there are 2 stitches on the end that are left undone and it seems that the afghan is shrinking shrinking somehow. Can you post a picture of the afghan in the video tutorial so we can see how the ends should look? It would be greatly appreciated. I'm used to making corner to corner afghans so this is a new project for me. Thank you!!

  50. Leaving 1 sc at the end of each row does not work. For the 125 size anyhow. Not sure how to correct it.

  51. I have some Bernat blanket yarn which is very thick. Can I use this pattern and a P hook? If so would I still chain the same amount or would that change because of the yarn and hook size I'm using? I have all this beautiful yarn and have no clue how to crochet it into a nice size afghan. Help please?

    ReplyDelete
  52. yes it would make it bigger when you use thicker yarn and hook size. It depends on how big you would like it, if you want it bigger than About 44 by 67 inches when finished, then yes go bigger, or you can try a lower chain count which I talk about in the video.

    ReplyDelete
  53. I chained 251 and like some of the others, my chains are shrinking. I've redone this 3 times

    ReplyDelete
  54. I would make sure you are counting all your stitches everytime, I have redone rows over because I miss counted

    1. Thank you for this, Amy. I was trying to find this pattern for weeks - it’s exactly the pattern that my Irish grandma used to teach me to crochet about 48 years ago. I do appreciate you taking the time to work it up, so the video, the whole nine yards (For the benefit of those miscounting, my afghan is NOT 9 yards a long...)

  57. Hey sweetie. When do I have to skip 2 chain stitches to start another row?

    ReplyDelete
  58. I would try to follow along with the video as you go along, and yes count the stitches

    ReplyDelete
  59. Hi, I finished 8 completed rows of one colour and it's only about 2 inches high. I am also using a K hook because that is what the worsted wool recommended. I'm using 3.5oz balls of wool and I went through a full ball by the end of the 8 rows.....is it maybe because my stitches are too tight? Any guidance on this would be much appreciated!

    ReplyDelete
  60. Would you say that this pattern is in multiples of 12 if I wanted to make it wider to fit a Queen size bed?

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Use the 251 and a K hook. I read in a previous comment that it would fit queen and hang a little over sides

  61. if you have 151 chains how many peaks

    ReplyDelete
  62. Im making one for a queen size bed but using an I hook, how many chains wouls I need for it fit ?

    ReplyDelete
  63. This Afghan measures about 44 by 67 inches when finished with a H hook. I looked up a queen bed spread at 66 x 84. So Yes going up a hook size or two. I figured out the dimensions for a smaller sizes not bigger after the original size. So yes I would go up a hook size or two. Take your chain for 251 with I hook and see what that measures, if its about the width you would like then I would stay with that hook size.

  64. Super happy to find this pattern which is the same as the blanket I have from my grandma who made hers in the late 80's. All the other ripple patterns I've found dodnt end with a full chevron side but go up at the ends slightly..like 2 stitches...didnt look like hers.

Putting a close up pic in this post of the edges would probably prevent a lot of people being alarmed about the indent, haha...and you may want to edit your youtube description so it had the link to your short video showing how the edge looks... if you havent.

    ReplyDelete
  65. Is it possible to shorten the initial chain link...about >90. I wanted to make a swaddle for a newborn with this pattern and I’m not sure how to calculate it. And tips would be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance.

  67. It is possible to make it smaller. I can't remember how many for each peak but you would decrease the number you initially chain by that many I believe.

    ReplyDelete
  68. if you watch the beginning of the video, I explain how to do a few different sizes.

    ReplyDelete
  69. Do you chain 502 to make it wider?

    ReplyDelete
  70. I only have the pattern that is shown in the photo. You could try that. I forgot the count on this one since I do so many patterns.

    ReplyDelete
  71. I love your pattern for the chevron / ripple. I do have a question on increasing the size. What is the multiple for increasing the chain?

    ReplyDelete
  72. Can you tell me what the multiples are if we want to increase the pattern size?

    ReplyDelete
  73. Looking for multiples to know how to increase the pattern size to fit a queen bed.
    Thanks
